We only grind stumps, and do it better than Superman can fly through the air!

Yes we do both residential & commercial.

Even if you own a stump grinder as part of your tree service or similar business, The Stump Guy WILL save you time, money and help improve your customers satisfaction rating!  I know this from many years of experience working for my family-owned tree trimming and removal business located in southeast Michigan.  To grind a stump, there needs to be a tow vehicle, grinder, trailer and driver at a minimum to grind even one stump.  Considering the take rate of grinding even one stump, the cost to own, operate & maintain the grinder and vehicle usually exceeds the amount generated from grinding a stump in the midst of all the other equipment, manpower and coordination efforts it takes to do even the most simple of tree jobs.

After two years of grinding their own stumps, my family’s business took the approach and created working relations with nearby stump grinders.  This change immediately reduced the number of vehicles and employees required for a tree removal job.  The key to their success in the tree trimming and removal business was how clean and orderly the job site was when the job was complete.  The last guy your customers sees is usually “The Stump Guy”.  This is where I will do my part by ensuring the grounds are raked, blown or plowed such that the customer will have minimal amount of yard work and repair due to the grinding operation.  In addition, should there be any concerns of the customer resulting from the tree trimming/removal processes, my years of customer relationships experience will certainly prove beneficial to your company in trying to rectify the concerns while at the job site.  My performance would be a reflection of your company, and that reflection must always be the priority!

As calls are received for tree work to which I do not do, those folks are referred to the companies, such as yours, who support my business the most.  This promotes a win/win relationship!

Consider the above thoughts then give me a call to discuss how “The Stump Guy”, can save you time, money and possibly be your best customer relations partner!

There is a minimum fee of $95.  Your project may have special needs that can impact that, but on average, this covers most projects.

Many factors, such as; location, proximity to other structures, underground utilities, accessibility and others do affect the cost to grind a stump.

Measuring a stump is by the inch, and measured across the widest portion of the stump.  Please click here to see a detailed measuring image.

There are many other factors involved in the quoting of a stump grinding job.  Should you have questions, give me a call and I will walk you through the entire quoting process to ensure you get the best price possible.

We grind stumps six to eight inches below grade.  This leaves plenty of room to back fill with good top soil in the event you would like to replant.

We understand there are some situations when the stump(s) need to be ground deeper.  Should this be the case, please contact us directly.

No we are not equipped to remove the debris left behind during the grinding process.

We do push, rake & blow the majority of the spoils back into the hole, but you should expect some additional yard cleanup after we leave the job site.  Our pricing reflects this service expectation otherwise the cost to grind and haul chips would significantly increase the cost of all jobs.

We cleanup after the job is complete by pushing, raking and blowing the grinding chips back into the hole where the stump once was.

You should expect some additional raking and lawn damage from the grinding machine.  We’ll make every effort to reduce as much as possible all lawn damage.  Our pricing reflects these expectations.

Grass will not grow on top the remaining grinding chips.  We recommend removing all of the chips first then filing the hole with clean fill dirt and topped with topsoil.

You should then get good results if you plan on replanting.

One side note, mulch  created by the grinding process actually uses up nutrients in the soil during its composting process.  For this reason, caution should be used if you plan on spreading this mulch in and around your flower beds.

You should expect some lawn / landscaping damage due to the size and weight of the grinder.  If the ground is soft or muddy, this too will result in additional lawn / landscape damage or even make not possible to grind should the equipment get stuck.

We exclusively own wheeled grinding machines for this very concern.  Even though tracked machines may have a lower pounds/feet^2 ratio, the tracked machines do more damage to the lawns when turning.

Your lawn, if properly raked & cleaned after completion of the job, should look good as new after a few weeks of proper watering, possibly a bit of topsoil and seed.  In most cases topsoil and seeding are not needed.

In most cases the answer is yes.  The grinder requires the fence opening to be a minimum of 38″, assuming level ground.  If the opening is between 38″ and 52″ there is an addition nominal fee to remove the two outside tires of the grinder.

There may be other factors to consider as well, such as; a steep hill, other trees or obstacles preventing a clear and open path to, and around the stump to be ground.  Such details can affect the quoted and final price of the job.

Unless you identify underground utilities such as a drain field, low voltage cables, sprinkler lines, electric underground pet fences or alike, we cannot be held responsible for any damage that may occur due to the grinding operation.

Major utility lines such as electricity, gas or water on the property are our responsibility.  As such there may be a delay in getting your job started in the event we feel the need to order a “Miss Dig” marking of your property.

Other than during the winter months, we do our best to stay on top of our schedule.

Although it’s not always possible we try to get all jobs done within a week or two.  Please be patient, we guarantee you’ll not be disappointed, and will find that our service is well worth the wait!

We accept Cash, Credit Cards, Certified Check or Money Orders.

Yes, we carry workman’s comp & liability insurance.

No, online and any other estimate / quoted price is subject to field conditions and observations we make when we arrive to the job.

Should there be any necessary adjustments in the price it must be discussed and agreed to prior to the start of the job.

Even if there is an agreement of final price, there still could be a reason to renegotiate the price should there be a foreign object not reported or known in advance.  Things such as a metal fence posts, large rocks or concrete, etc. are sometimes grown in and around the tree.  These sometimes are not found until the grinding process begins.  In most cases the stump can still be ground but will require more time.

It’s also possible, if a foreign object is found, that the stump cannot be totally ground.  This has never happened to me (thank goodness)!

PLEASE give me a call or text to (616) 600-8899 anytime.  You can also shoot me a note via. the “Contact” page.
